2006 - 2007 Meetings

September 25th, 2006 - GEFA & the State Energy Strategy for GA
Rich Ross will provide an overview/update of the Division of Energy Resources of GEFA and present information on the development process and content of the State Energy Strategy for Georgia. Rich Ross is a Program Manager with the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority, Division of Energy Resources (GEFA). Rich is currently managing several grants dedicated to reducing traffic congestion and air pollution, such as the Clean Air Campaign and the CMAQ Alternative Fuel Vehicles and Infrastructure grants. Rich also oversees the statewide Recycling and Waste Reduction grant program, which has awarded over $10 million to local communities for recycling projects since 1996. In September 2005, at the request of the Governor’s office, GEFA began the task of developing a comprehensive energy plan for the state. Since then, Rich has devoted much of his time to drafting portions of the State Energy Strategy for Georgia and assisting colleagues with data collection and analysis. He is a graduate of Emory University. The two presentations are available for download [1]   [2]

October 30th, 2006 - Bi-polar Ionization Air Treatment
Bob Campbell from EcoTech Consultants will present bi-polar ionization air treatment.  Bi-polar ionization is a technology which electronically cleans the air by breaking down the molecules into their base elements. (i.e., ammonia is broken down from NH3 into free hydrogen and free nitrogen atoms). It is not a particulate-filtration process. In applications where the amount of outdoor air is a function of the number of occupants, ASHRAE 62 allows for cleaning the air in the space (IAQ Procedure), as an alternate to bringing in large amounts of outdoor air (Ventilation Procedure). By employing the IAQ Procedure the designing engineer is able to reduce the amount of outdoor air from the typical 15 or 20 CFM per person to 5 CFM per person. Two presentations are available for download [1] [2].  ASHRAE members can download the May 2006 article called "Reduced Outside Air for Auditorium" from their site.
